Pat's T-Shirt Quilt with Gray Front and Pink Back

Pat made this memory T-shirt Quilt for her family member who loves pink. However, pink on the front with these colors of T-shirts didn’t seem to be the right choice. So she made the back pink. Being a t-shirt quilt, I did a large meander in Sterling Gray Glide and Glide 60 thread which blended well on the front and back.

Emerald's Scrappy Spinning Squares Charity Quilt

This charity quilt was made by my sister, Emerald, using up the last of her square scraps in two different sizes.
I love how she made the swirl.

I quilted it using the Duet pantograph from Urban Elementz in Sterling gray Glide and Glide 60 thread.

The next 2 pictures I took because I was struck by how the same gray thread looked so different on the light vs. dark fabric.

The back, made of more neutral fabrics, makes a whole new look. It's like having two quilts in one.

Charity Quilt Tropical Fish in Red, Yellow, Blue, Purple

This charity quilt for my guild has little fishies all over it so I thought the “Ripples” pantograph from Urban Elementz was perfect for it.

The thread color was a bit trickier. I laid out several options - reds, yellows, blues, but each one stood out way more than I liked on the contrasting color. As a last resort, I tried 3 different colors of purple and the lavender Glide worked best. It blended well with the red and blues and was the same value in color as the yellow.

Charity Quilt in African Fabrics

Jeanette asked me to quilt this quilt that she plans to give to charity. I used the pantograph I made called “Clamshells on the Side” which went well with some of the African prints.

The only problem is you can’t even see it, front or back. The black Glide thread I used blends in so well. I kind of wish I had used an easier pattern, since no one can see the work I did, but oh well. What’s done is done.

Emerald's Disappearing Pinwheel Quilt - Celtic Rose

My quilt guild gave us a challenge to make a baby quilt using a “disappearing” block method. What is that?, you say? You take a basic block sewn together in the traditional way, then cut it up, often in quarters or 9ths.

For this one, my sister, Emerald took 4 identical pinwheels (see her back for the blocks she started with), and cut them into 9ths, like a tic-tac-toe and rearranged them into the Celtic Rose. She got this pattern from “The Questioning Quilter.” I quilted it with a freehand c-curl design. By the way, she won the prize at the guild.

Double Disappearing 9-Patch Baby Quilt in Orange and Blue

My quilt guild gave us a challenge to make a baby quilt using a “disappearing” block method. “What is that,” you say? You take a basic block sewn together in the traditional way (e.g. 9-patch, 4-patch, hour glass, pinwheel), then cut it up, often in quarters or 9ths. For this one, I took a 9-patch (3x3, think tic-tac-to) then cut it in quarters.

Since I had just made one for my grandson, I took some of the leftover disappearing 9-patch blocks and threw it this together. I took some time on the quilting with feathers and ruler work, but just wait until you see what my sister, Emerald made for the challenge! (Will be my next post).

Jeanette's Sailboat Quilt in Red, Yellow and Blue

When a client tells me to pick the quilting design and thread color myself, I often ask the opinions of those at home. Jeanette let me pick with the only comment that she wanted it to look like water. I narrowed down the choice to 3 and asked my sister and one of my sons their advice.

Both said “Bora Bora” (Urban Elementz) which was not the one I was leaning towards. No sooner did I start quilting it, than I realized that it was the perfect choice. Not only did it have the feel of water, but the wind in the sails. Genius!

Thread was Blue Jay Glide on the front and Pacific Glide 60 on the back.

Jeanette's Kaleidoscope Quilt in Blue and Orange

Jeanette “inherited” this quilt top from a friend who passed and decided she liked it so much she would keep it.

I quilted with Blue Jay Glide thread on top and Pacific Glide 60 on the back, doing some ruler work to accentuate the visual movement.

I love designs that appear to be curved when they are really straight. Someday I’m going to make a quilt similar to this.

Becca's Mom's Quilts and Sunbonnet Sue Table Runner/Wall Hangings

I decided to post these 3 all together. Sweet friend from years long past was an avid quilter. When she passed away she had a few projects she was almost done with and her daughter, Becca, asked me to finish them up.

The first is a quilt with many embellishments to be quilted around and prairie points already sewn on. This took some thinking on my part, but hopefully she would have approved.

This is the back I made from leftover fabric in the box.

The Sunbonnet Sue wallhangings/table runners were probably to be combined into a larger piece, but we opted to bind them individually for 3 of her daughters, so all I did there was bind them.

The rest of the work was her own. The backs were a mirror image of the front.

Here's a close up on one of the girls, with the stitching she had done.

The reversible QAYG (quilt-as-you-go) log cabin just needed a binding.

Both sides.

There was no matching green fabric leftover in the box, nor did I have any that matched. I opted for binding in black which I thought better than a green that looked like it was trying to match but didn't.

Cathy's Moose and Bear Quilt in Brown, Blue and Green

Another beautiful quilt pieces by Cathy.

I quilted this in celery Glide thread on the front and mocha Glide 60 thread on the back.

The pantograph is Time Warp (Urban Elementz).
