My good friends acquired some quilt tops from a great aunt who had passed away. They brought me 3 to quilt with a lot of latitude on how I did them. This one was not a finished top. It was simply the squares, but they were all irregular in shape. It was decided to trim them to square, even though we knew the piecing would not necessarily match up as they should. In this case, finished was better than perfect.
As I looked at the bright orange in multiple hues, I kept seeing pumpkins. Maybe this was influenced by the fall season that I was finishing it in, but I was just going to do one of the pantographs that I had and had not yet used. However, my daughter said I had to do pumpkins, so I did. After it was done and I posted the picture on Facebook, I had several people say they thought poppies would have been a good quilting pattern. I agree. That would have been a good option, too.
