Enlarging Shannon's quilt top

When Fabric Nosherie closed its doors in April 2013, Shannon gave me a quilt top that had sat in the store room of her shop since not long after she opened the store.  She had made it years before and had set up on a quilt frame to let people try their hand at hand quilting during some special deal.  There was some quilting done on it, but not much and the shape was rather odd for a bed - rather long and narrow for a twin sized bed.

The original part (as I tried to show above - sorry the colors are not the best in the first and last photos) was the horizontal stripes with the circles at the top and bottom. Along the left hand side there was two vertical stripes and on the right hand side was only one vertical stripe.  The back was green with white polka-dots.

It sat for a while as I thought about what I wanted to do with it.  Finally I decided that I needed to take out the quilting that was in it and make it larger so as to fit on a bed.  I picked it apart and pulled it out from time to time to look at it.  I looked through my fabric stash to see what fabrics I had that would go well with her color choices and found a few, but not as much as I would need to enlarge it adequately.  Then one day it hit me.  I would use the back fabric she had chosen and frame her quilt on the angle.







Finally, in the Fall of 2015, I finished the top.  It now waits for me to get my long arm quilter that I'm saving up for, and be one of my practice quilts before I give it to charity.
