With all the roses printed on the fabrics, I had to quilt Janet’s quilt with a rosebud edge to edge pattern from Urban Elementz in Glide’s Pink Lemonade thread on the top and Glide 60 Sterling thread on the back. She picked it up so soon after I finished that I didn’t have a chance to take my typical outdoor staged photograph. Oh well. It was done, she liked it, and that’s what’s important.
Another unusual client request that took more thinking and planning than the actual sewing. She had a baby sized afghan her mother had made as well as 2 thin towels with grandkids’ photos printed on them. One towel was too tall, so the top 2 items needed to be appliquéd elsewhere - one into the center of the heart and the sun into the sky of the central photo, then the whole towel sewn to one side of the afghan. The other towel was to be made a little smaller and sewn to the center of the other side. (See the next two photos.)
(Above, the larger towel with my notes. Below the smaller towel folded to show where it should go.)
If that had been all, I could have finished it much sooner, but nnnooo, I had to ask about batting and quilting since that’s what my business is all about. She liked the idea of the people having some poof to them, but not the background. So then I had to figure out how to trapunto it. There was definitely an order of operations that I had to figure out to make it work, but it’s done and she’s happy.
Though my preference is just to quilt, occasionally I branch out of the norm. Deanna needed a quilt that had once been divided into 2 smaller ones, put back together. There’s an obvious seam afterwards, but the little girl who loved her blanket was happy to have it back big enough to snuggle under. Fabrics, direction and binding stayed the same. I had to replace the batting though. I quilted with white thread with freehand loops since it was closer to how it had once been quilted
This is another charity quilt I quilted for my guild to be donated to Home Sweet Home.
I used the 2017 Duet Pantograph from Urban Elementz (there seems to be another Duet pantograph available now which isn't the same as this one) and Celery Glide thread on the top and White Glide 60 on the back.
